“Dr. Bala”  - documentary feature film

What if your family member was diagnosed with cancer but there was no treatment available in your country? This is still a reality in many Southeast Asian countries.

After realizing this, Dr. Kazuhiro Omura, a world-class ENT surgeon and humanitarian doctor, started to wonder if there was any way he could help. He decided to set aside his vacation days to volunteer in these Southeast Asian countries to improve their medical care. He has been continuing his services for 12 years and counting.

His strong build and dependable nature earned him the nickname Dr. Bala, meaning “powerful” in Burmese. His work empowers many and offers a message of hope in communities plagued with grief.

A history of genocide, natural disasters, and other calamities has left medical care systems with a shortage of skilled doctors, infrastructure and supplies.

Although Dr. Bala encountered many challenges along the way, his ability to forge connections and inspire and educate people has created remarkable outcomes that no one thought possible.

Dr. Bala’s work transcends national borders by creating strong bonds between doctors and patients of various nationalities. He has also given local doctors the skills and confidence to improve medical procedures in their own countries.

Everyone has their own “bala” carried within them. By exercising that power, we can connect with people and enrich each other's lives.

We will all walk away from this film uplifted and inspired to find our own “bala”.
